Viking Welding & Fabrication: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide

If you have a Viking gate with a cracked weld, a broken hinge plate, or a fabricator-built section that’s separating, we can match it, weld it, and have it swinging clean again. Most Viking welding and fabrication repairs in Jacksonville run between $225 and $650 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing the existing piece or fabricating a replacement section. We stock Viking-compatible steel, hinge hardware, and mounting plates on our trucks, so much of this work can be done the same week we see it.

The way most Jacksonville owners discover the problem is quiet at first: the gate starts dragging on the latch side, or there’s a creak that wasn’t there last season. Then one morning the gate won’t close all the way because a hinge plate has torn loose from the post. Salt air and afternoon thunderstorms here do slow, steady work on steel, especially at the weld points where a gate section meets its frame. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Viking, but we work on their gates often enough to know exactly where they fail.

Which Viking Models This Applies To

Viking gate frames and fabrications were built in a few distinct hardware generations, and the mounting points matter more than the model name. The most common Viking residential swing gates use a square-tube steel frame with either 1-inch or 1-1/2-inch tubing, and the hinge plates are welded to the frame at the top and bottom of the hinge stile. If your gate was installed before about 2012, it’s likely the smaller tube size. After that, most Viking fabrications moved to 1-1/2-inch or 2-inch square tube, which changes the hinge plate dimensions and the weld bead profile we need to match.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see regularly in Jacksonville: the hinge side of a Viking gate often rusts at the weld before the latch side does, because the hinge side carries all of the gate’s weight through two relatively small weld points. When that weld cracks, replacing the gate isn’t necessary in most cases. We cut out the failing section, grind the rust back to clean metal, and weld in a new plate or stub section that matches the original tube size. The question of OEM versus aftermarket applies more to the hardware than the steel itself. For the hinge plates and post brackets, we use OEM-spec dimensions or quality aftermarket equivalents in thicker gauge steel. For the weld itself and the fabricated replacement sections, we cut and weld in our shop using 1-1/2-inch or 2-inch steel matched to your frame. Aftermarket makes sense on hinge plates; OEM-matching dimensions make sense on everything structural.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags on the latch side. This is usually a hinge plate pulling away from the frame or a weld that has stretched under load. The gate still hangs, but the latch no longer lines up without lifting the gate by hand.
  • A crack runs along a weld bead. Look at the corners where the horizontal rails meet the vertical stiles. Hairline rust bleeding from a seam is the early warning. Left alone in Jacksonville humidity, that crack widens fast.
  • The gate flexes when you push it. A properly welded Viking gate resists flexing. If you can feel the frame twist or see the pickets move independently, a structural weld has failed somewhere mid-frame.
  • Rust has flaked the frame at the bottom rail. The bottom rail sits near irrigation spray, standing water, and lawn chemicals. We regularly replace the bottom 6 to 12 inches of a Viking frame in Jacksonville because salt air gets inside the tube and rusts it from the inside out.
  • You can see daylight through a joint that used to be solid. That’s an open weld, and it means moisture has been getting in for a while. The fix is a cut-out and re-weld, not caulk or a touch-up paint job.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard hinge plate re-weld or crack repair on a Viking gate in Jacksonville, our labor and materials run about $225 to $350, including grinding, welding, and a rust-inhibiting primer. When the damage requires fabricating a replacement section, like a full bottom rail or a hinge stile, the job typically lands between $400 and $650. If we’re building a whole new gate section to match an existing Viking frame, the price depends on the tube size, picket count, and whether any decorative castings need to be recreated.

Every quote is written before we start, with parts and labor separated. You’ll see the exact number and know what’s covered. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to all of it: if a weld fails or a section we fabricated doesn’t hold, we come back and make it right, no argument. Before we step onto your property, we’ll agree on the price. You won’t find out at the end that it cost more.

DIY or Call Us?

If your Viking gate is creaking, you can safely clean and inspect the hinge welds yourself: look for rust streaks, hairline cracks, or any movement at the joints while the gate swings. That’s useful information to have before you call. But welding a gate frame is not a beginner repair. The steel must be ground clean, the replacement section squared and clamped true, and the welds laid evenly or the gate will develop a twist you’ll fight forever. There’s also a safety line here, and it’s simple: if a gate is carrying its own weight on a cracked hinge plate, the next failure could drop the whole leaf, and nobody wants to be in the path of that.

If the weld is cracked or the frame has separated, call us at (904) 250-0188. We’ll come out, assess what failed, and tell you whether it’s a repair or a fabrication job before any money changes hands.
