We stock and install DoorKing gate motor replacements across Jacksonville, with most swaps running between $625 and $1,150 installed depending on your model and whether it’s a swing or slide gate. The work typically takes 90 minutes to two hours on site, and we keep the most common DoorKing replacement motors on our trucks for same-day service in most Jacksonville neighborhoods. Most owners discover the failure the same way: the gate opens fine one morning, then strains, groans, or simply stops responding by evening. A capacitor drone or a clicking relay without movement is usually the motor telling you it’s done.
Every DoorKing motor we replace gets a written price before we touch anything, and the part is quoted separately from labor so you see exactly what you’re paying for. We’re an independent Jacksonville gate service company, not a DoorKing dealer, which means we can match your existing motor with OEM or quality aftermarket equivalents without steering you toward whatever’s in stock that week.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing makes two broad families of gate operators that Jacksonville homes commonly have: the swing-arm series (9200, 9100, 9150) and the slide-gate series (9300, 9309, 6300). The motor inside each is not interchangeable between the two families. A 9200 swing motor will not bolt into a 9300 slide operator, even though the housings look similar from ten feet away.
To identify your motor, look at the tag on the operator housing. DoorKing prints the model and serial number on a silver sticker inside the hinged cover. If that sticker is sun-blanched, which happens fast in Florida, the motor’s shaft length and mounting-bolt spread will tell us what we need. Swing motors use a 1-inch output shaft with a keyway; slide motors use a longer shaft with a sprocket driver. We can field-confirm this in about five minutes.
Original DoorKing motors are well built but priced accordingly. A quality aftermarket motor for a DoorKing operator typically runs 30 to 40 percent less and carries a one-year parts warranty on the units we install. We’ll show you both numbers and let you decide. The one place we don’t recommend aftermarket is the 9150 series, where the encoder mount differs slightly from the standard 9100 and aftermarket fitment has been inconsistent. On those, we fit OEM.

Signs Your DoorKing Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing
- Humming with no movement. The start capacitor is failing, or the motor’s centrifugal switch has seized. If it hums for more than three seconds, cut power at the breaker and call us. Extended humming cooks the windings and turns a $50 capacitor fix into a full motor replacement.
- Gate moves slower than it did six months ago. Motor brushes on DC models wear down over time. In Jacksonville’s humidity, brush dust mixes with condensation and creates a film that further drags the commutator. Slow movement is the first stage of brush failure.
- Gate stops midway and reverses. The motor’s thermal overload is tripping, which usually means the gate itself is binding. In older Jacksonville neighborhoods like San Marco, the post may have drifted an inch over five years and the operator is now working against the load every cycle.
- Burning smell from the operator box. Windings are overheating. This is the point of no return for the motor core. Turn the operator off at the breaker and leave it off until we look at it.
- Intermittent operation, especially after rain. Jacksonville’s afternoon thunderstorms test every seal on an outdoor motor. Moisture penetration corrodes the commutator and the brush springs. If the gate runs fine on dry days and stumbles after a storm, water has found its way inside.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the honest pricing picture for Jacksonville. A DoorKing swing motor replacement lands between $625 and $780 installed. A slide motor runs $775 to $1,150 installed because the motor is larger and the sprocket alignment takes more time. The parts portion is usually 55 to 70 percent of that number; the rest is labor, calibration, and load testing.
- DoorKing swing motor (aftermarket): $310 to $430 for the part
- DoorKing swing motor (OEM): $460 to $590 for the part
- DoorKing slide motor (aftermarket): $420 to $560 for the part
- DoorKing slide motor (OEM): $590 to $780 for the part
- Labor and calibration: $195 to $295 depending on access and condition of the mounts
Every quote includes: removal of the dead motor, inspection of the drive chain or swing arm, fresh hardware where needed, limit-switch recalibration, and a full load test cycling the gate eight to ten times. The price you sign off on is the price you pay. All Latch and Post gate motor replacements are covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the motor or our work fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things a Jacksonville homeowner can safely check before calling us. Confirm the operator has power at the breaker. Look for a tripped GFCI outlet near the operator. Note whether the gate moves freely by hand when you disengage the manual release. Those observations save you a service call if the answer is a tripped outlet, and they help us diagnose faster if it’s not.
What we don’t recommend is opening the motor housing yourself. DoorKing operators carry 120V or 240V at the motor terminals, and the capacitors inside hold a charge long after the breaker is off. A wrong move there is a genuine shock hazard. The motor swap itself also requires realigning the drive shaft and resetting limit switches, which is a 45-minute job for us and a full afternoon of frustration for most DIY attempts gone sideways. If you’ve already opened the panel and the gate is clicking without movement, call (904) 250-0188. Tell me exactly what the gate is doing, and we can usually figure out what it needs before I even open the panel.
FAQs
In Jacksonville, expect six to nine years from a DoorKing motor, and the clock starts faster for gates near the coast where salt air works on every exposed connection. We replace motors in the Ortega and San Marco areas sooner than in inland neighborhoods, typically at six to seven years. The 365-Day Done Right Promise on our installations means if yours dies early, you’re not paying twice. Call (904) 250-0188 for an exact quote.
Yes, when it’s the capacitor, the brushes, or the limit switch. Those are $48 to $180 repairs. When the windings burn, the commutator is scored, or the bearing races are shot, replacement is cheaper than a motor rebuild. We’ll show you the diagnosis and let you choose. Call (904) 250-0188 and we’ll look at it without charging you for an opinion.
Ninety minutes to two hours for most Jacksonville residential gates. Slide gates take the longer end of that range because the sprocket alignment and limit-switch tuning are more involved. We lay drop cloths and put on shoe covers before stepping on any indoor path to the control panel, and we clean up before we leave.
We stock aftermarket and OEM DoorKing swing motors for the 9100 and 9200 series on our trucks now. Slide motors for the 9300 series are one to two days out from our Jacksonville supplier. If you have a 9150, we’ll source OEM. We also keep parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls on hand. Call (904) 250-0188 in the morning and we’ll tell you same-day or next-day for your model.
