Mighty Mule hinge and roller replacement in Jacksonville typically runs between $95 and $210 installed, depending on whether you need a single hinge swapped or a full roller and hinge set on both sides of the gate. We stock Mighty Mule-compatible hinges and rollers on the truck, so most of these jobs are done in one visit – often the same day you call. What usually brings owners to this page is a gate that has started sagging, scraping against the ground near the latch side, or making a grinding sound when the operator pulls it open. The part itself is simple, but a gate that has been dragging for a few months has usually done secondary damage, and that’s the part worth talking about before you spend money on the wrong fix.
We are an independent service provider in Jacksonville – not affiliated with Mighty Mule – but we work on their equipment regularly, along with LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing systems.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
Just about every Mighty Mule gate system uses the same basic hinge-and-roller architecture, but there are differences worth knowing before you buy parts. The two big families are the single-swing systems (the MM260, MM271, MM360, and MM371 series) and the dual-swing systems (MM560, MM562, MM571, and MM572). Single-swing kits use one hinge-and-roller set on the post side and a simple post pivot on the far side. Dual-swing systems put hinges and rollers on both posts, which means double the parts when things wear out.
The practical gotcha: the roller brackets are not universal across generations. Older MM360 and MM371 units from roughly the mid-2010s used a pressed-steel roller bracket with a smaller axle hole than the current production. Newer versions of the same bracket look nearly identical, but the axle diameter is off by about 2 millimeters, and the roller will bind or wobble if you mix them. We keep the common variants on hand because we run into this in Jacksonville often enough to know it happens. The model label is on the inside face of the control box cover, and the hinge-to-post mounting bolt spacing is stamped on the hinge flange – that measurement tells us which generation you have faster than the model number does.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Mighty Mule’s OEM hinges and rollers are zinc-plated and sized correctly for their brackets, and the hinge posts are powder-coated to match the gate. Quality aftermarket equivalents from suppliers like LiftMaster’s generic hardware line work fine when the gate is lightweight, but they are not always an exact footprint match. For two out of three Jacksonville homes with these systems, OEM or a close-equivalent part is worth the extra $25 because it seats correctly the first time.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate sags and drags near the latch side. This is the classic hinge-wear failure. The top hinge pin ovalizes the drilled hole in the metal over years of opening cycles, and the whole leaf drops. By the time you hear the scrape, the hinge is already beyond adjusting.
- The roller grinds or squeaks while the gate moves. The roller bearing is a sealed unit, and once the seal fails – often from Jacksonville’s sand and salt air getting in – the bearing runs dry and starts to chatter. This noise usually means the roller needs replacement, not lubrication.
- The gate hesitates or shudders when the operator starts a cycle. A worn roller creates rolling resistance, and the motor fights that resistance. Newer Mighty Mule boards compensate for load up to a point, but a dragging roller shortens motor life noticeably.
- You see visible wear or flattening on the roller face. When the roller has been run partially seized, the wheel develops a flat spot. The gate then thumps over that flat with every open and close cycle, and the problem accelerates from there.
- The gate leans toward the driveway or walkway. Side-loading from a failing roller bracket puts uneven pressure on the hinge post itself. In softer Jacksonville soil, that leans the post, and the fix moves from part swap to post repair. We see this at least a couple of times a month in older St. Johns County properties.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For a single Mighty Mule hinge-and-roller set on a residential swing gate in Jacksonville, installed pricing generally lands between $95 and $210. The range depends on gate weight, whether we are replacing one side or both, and whether the post needs shimming or resetting at the same time. A full dual-swing system with hinges and rollers on both posts and fresh mounting hardware usually comes in between $180 and $320, including parts and labor.
That price includes the parts themselves, the install time, removal of the old hardware, and a bolt-torque check with the gate lifted back to level. We also look at the operator’s force settings while we are there, because a properly aligned gate allows the opener to work far less and last far longer. Written price before any work starts – always. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every hinge and roller replacement we do: if the gate sags again within the year, we make it right without charging you twice.
Cody Beckman and the crew handle these swaps in a single visit in the large majority of cases. We carry the common kits on the truck so there’s no “we’ll come back next week” waiting period for the standard-size parts.

There are a couple of safe things you can check before you spend anything. Look at the roller itself: if you see a flat spot or the wheel does not spin freely by hand when the gate is in the open position, that’s your answer. You can also grab the gate near the latch and lift. A small amount of play – about a quarter inch – is normal. More than that tells you the hinge pins are worn and it is not going to fix itself.
What goes wrong with DIY hinge replacement on these gates is the gate has to be blocked up safely while the hinge is unbolted, the bolts are often seized after years in Florida weather, and if you get the hinge spacing wrong by even an eighth of an inch, the gate will bind or the operator will strain. And if the roller was the problem, forcing the gate through cycles with the new hinge while the old roller drags just transfers the wear to the new part. We are happy to talk through the symptoms. Call (904) 250-0188 and tell us what the gate is doing before you turn the first bolt.
FAQs
We typically see 4 to 7 years from the factory roller bearing and hinge pins in Jacksonville’s humidity and salt air, less if the gate is near the Intracoastal or the Atlantic. Coastal properties often need replacement at the 3- to 4-year mark. The hinge itself usually outlives the roller, but both are cheap enough that most owners replace them as a set. If you live east of Route 1 in Jacksonville, expect shorter bearing life and plan for it. Call (904) 250-0188 and we can take a look at what you have now.
No – the Mighty Mule roller is a sealed bearing assembly, not a serviceable design. Once the bearing seal fails, the correct repair is replacement. The hinge pins can sometimes be re-bushed if the hinge body itself is not ovalized, but that repair is usually close enough in price to a new hinge that the new part makes more sense. We will show you the slop in the old pin before we recommend either path.
A standard single-gate Mighty Mule hinge and roller swap takes between 45 and 90 minutes, including lifting the gate back to level and testing the operator’s cycle. Dual-swing systems with both sides done run about 2 hours. Most Jacksonville homes we visit are done in one morning or afternoon trip.
Yes – we carry the common Mighty Mule hinge-and-roller kits for the single and dual-swing series, plus the older-generation brackets that some Jacksonville homes still have in service. If you have an uncommon variant, we can usually source it within a couple of days. The fastest way to find out is to call (904) 250-0188 and give us the model number from inside the control box.

If your Mighty Mule gate is sagging, dragging, or grinding, the repair is often a half-day visit. We come with the parts, we hand you a written price before anything happens, and we leave the work site clean – drop cloths down, shoe covers on, and a photo of the cleanup before we go. Live person answers the phone around the clock. Call (904) 250-0188 for a free estimate, and tell us exactly what the gate is doing. We can usually figure out what it needs before we even open the panel.
